We still keep things pretty relaxed in 1st Grade. Still, we have a bit of a schedule. See the file on the side.
The Jewish Child's Bible Stories (Used 2x a week for 16 weeks)
Stories from Jewish History (Select stories- Used 2x a week till end of year)
I prefer to have them draw as a form of narration at this age, so we draw one lesson and narrate orally the next.
(In this, we prefer to color and trace maps of places we read of- 1x a week.)
(This still primarily comprises reading instruction at this age.)
Copywork 3x a week- 2-3 words each time. By the end of the week, they should have a nice sentence copied under one of their drawings.
Literature (Read Alouds)
A Child's Garden of Verses
Grimm's Fairy Tales
The Little Bear series
Lights Along the Path by Rebecca Schacht
Paddle to the Sea by Holling C Holling
Other reading as desired
First Lessons in Arithmetic (After the first five lessons, each lesson is done in about 2 days, but sometimes three. The review lessons take longer- about 2 weeks.)
Nature Study at least 2x a week
The Burgess Bird Book (1-2x a week)
