We still keep things pretty relaxed in 1st Grade. Still, we have a bit of a schedule. See the file on the side. Booklist: History The Jewish Child's Bible Stories (Used 2x a week for 16 weeks) Stories from Jewish History (Select stories- Used 2x a week till end of year) I prefer to have them draw as a form of narration at this age, so we draw one lesson and narrate orally the next. Geography (In this, we prefer to color and trace maps of places we read of- 1x a week.) Language Arts (This still primarily comprises reading instruction at this age.) Copywork 3x a week- 2-3 words each time. By the end of the week, they should have a nice sentence copied under one of their drawings. Literature (Read Alouds) A Child's Garden of Verses Grimm's Fairy Tales The Little Bear series Lights Along the Path by Rebecca Schacht Paddle to the Sea by Holling C Holling Other reading as desired Math First Lessons in Arithmetic (After the first five lessons, each lesson is done in about 2 days, but sometimes three. The review lessons take longer- about 2 weeks.) Science Nature Study at least 2x a week The Burgess Bird Book (1-2x a week) |
