Third Grade

We are about as formal as we get by 3rd Grade.  For our schedule, see the file on the side.

Booklist:
History
Famous Men of the Middle Ages (Used 2x a week for first 1/2 yr)
Leif the Lucky- D'Aulaire (1x a week- 1st half)
Famous Men of Modern Times  (Used 2x a week till end of year)
In the Days of Alfred the Great
(1x a week- 2nd half)
I still prefer to have them draw as a form of narration at this age, so we draw one lesson and narrate orally the next.
Geography
(In this, we prefer to color and trace maps of places we read of- 1x a week.)

Language Arts
I start grammar a wee bit earlier than CM because we have state testing this year.
Practical Lessons in the use of English
Copywork continues 2x a week.

Literature (Read Alouds)
Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb
The Wind in the Willows
Robin Hood
Tales of king Arthur
Heidi
Marco Polo
Other reading as desired

Math
First Lessons in Arithmetic (If not finished last year) or Elementary Arithmetic on the Inductive Plan

Science
Nature Study at least 2x a week
The Children and the Flowers (1x a week- 1/2 half)
Famous Men of Science (Selected stories- 2x a week 2nd half)
